History

Increase reliability and become a competitive energy company. That is the mission that PT Krakatau Chandra Energi (PT KCE) has always emphasized in running its business. This energy company, which is also a subsidiary of PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk (PT KS), has proven its competence in meeting the demand for energy needs of customers in the Krakatau Industrial Estate area and its surroundings.

Before becoming an independent business, on October 9, 1979, PT KCE was one of the divisions under the Planning Directorate of PT KS. At that time, factories and infrastructure in the integrated steel industrial area required reliable electricity supply from independent units. For this need, PT KS built a Steam Power Plant (PLTU) with a capacity of 400 Megawatts (MW).

On April 25, 1995, the PLTU 400 MW Division changed its status to the Autonomous Unit for PLTU 400 MW PT KS. This follows the issuance of the Decree of the Board of Directors of PT KS Number 37/C/DUKSIKpts/1995 regarding the change in status.

Because this unit has the potential to develop into an energy company that is calculated in terms of power generation capacity, the management is separated. This separation is in line with the restructuring carried out by PT KS for all of its autonomous units. Therefore, on February 28, 1996, the 400 MW PLTU Autonomy Unit was upgraded to an Independent Business Entity under the name PT Krakatau Daya Listrik.

In line with the development of the Krakatau Industrial Estate, it is certain that the energy needs that need to be distributed will also increase. In order to maintain the quality and reliability of the availability of consumer energy in industrial areas, PT KCE built a CCPP PLTGU with a capacity of 120 MW which has been operating since April 2015. With the CCPP, the PLTU is not operated.

Increasing energy absorption in industrial and national areas is seen as an opportunity for PT KCE to expand its business. Electricity services, which capitalize on the experience of human resources, qualified equipment, and synergies with various manufacturers, are run by PT KCE to reach the electricity market both locally and nationally. Various projects related to EPC, O&M, quality improvement and electrical system quality can be run by PT KCE and provide the best service to consumers.

The development of national policies related to the issue of global warming, PT KCE began to move into the new and renewable energy business. The national energy mix that is transformed from fossil energy into new and renewable energy is an opportunity that PT KCE has achieved to increase the company's competence and income. As a first step, PT KCE will build and operate a PLTS Rooftop with a capacity of 102 kWp in July 2020. The PLT built on PT KCE's mainstation is connected on grid to the KCE electricity network. In the future, various new and renewable energy alternatives will be developed and the service options provided to consumers to be able to switch.
